The processes of valorization that will be tested are composting and anaerobic digestion.
Composting assays will be performed at lab scale and at industrial scale, and the anaerobic digestion study at laboratory scale. Moreover, the technical feasibility of the compost produced from organic fiber, for its use as fertilizer or organic amendment will be studied. Since a new technology will be studied, and as it is promoted by the new Waste management Frame Directive, a Life Cycle Assessment study of the technology (Active Higienization) will be carried out and it will be compared with the actual refuse management systems. This project will allow to obtain a depth study on valorization alternatives for organic fiber and to obtain a comparative environmental analysis of active higienization with the current management refuse ways.
